VINNIE PAUL: "We should just leave the fourteen amazing years Pantera had be."

As we have said MANY times, a PANTERA reunion without the late great Dimebag Darrell Abbott would be the worst moment in Heavy Music history. Why?

1) Dimebag Darrell Abbott was the main song writer in PANTERA.
2) Nobody can replace DIME! When we saw Kerry King (Slayer) perform "A New Level" and "Fucking Hostile" together with Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano (Anthrax) at the "Metal Masters Clinic 2" in New York City late last year, none of them did justice to DIME's shredding abilities!
3) Reunions are usually organized when all the members of a band are still alive and well.

We are glad to hear that Vinnie Paul doesn't think a PANTERA reunion is a smart move. Also, when we spoke with bassist Rex Brown he clearly stated that it would NEVER happen (watch our interview with Rex below)!

However, Vinnie told Cindy Scull of the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas radio station 97.1 The Eagle Rocks, that IF there would be a reunion Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society would be the candidate to fill in for DIME!

"I spent two hours with Zakk, sitting down — a really great talk about… [Zakk] calls [Dimebag] 'the old man.' I mean, [Zakk] and my brother were so tight. If [a PANTERA reformation] ever were to happen, [Zakk] would be the guy [to step in for Dimebag]. But I honestly think, out of respect for my brother, we should just leave the 14 amazing years PANTERA had be. We're all happy doing our own thing. We have to continue living and do other things. But the 20th anniversary of [PANTERA's classic second major label album] 'Vulgar Display Of Power' is coming — that was our best record ever. There's a new song on [the upcoming 20th-anniversary reissue of 'Vulgar'] nobody's ever heard [called 'Piss' that goes] 'You're just piss in the wind.' It's totally Phil [Anselmo, former PANTERA singer] — his attitude, everything that PANTERA was all about. I'm really proud of it. I'm really excited to see it [come out]."
